Who Do I Have To Sleep With?

alliance 150x150 Who Do I Have To Sleep With?The past week or two, has seen a lot of affiliates being messed around by networks and merchants with suspensions and partnership deals ending left, right and centre.

A bit of fuss has been stirred up following one instance where one merchant appears to have sent a blanket email culling most affiliates even without the network’s knowledge – more can be read on Jasons blog.

So to help networks & merchants better understand why affiliates get hacked off, this is how it works for me personally, and a lot of other small affiliates;

  • We trawl through 100′s of emails every day and spot a new programme announcement on a network we’d like to promote in the future. Maybe not right now but in a month or so.

SkimLinks & SkimWords = Cool Beans!

skimlinks 150x150 SkimLinks & SkimWords = Cool Beans!Admittedly Skimlinks isn’t new to the scene, having been around since 2008 and winning A4U Awards in 2009, however it’s only now I’ve started tinkering around with it.

Heading off to Affiliate Summit, and offering my room to Joe (another story for which I still feel terrible about… I had no phone signal!), I felt compelled to give it a try, so to save Joe from any hard sell he may feel compelled to do.

In a nutshell, Skimlinks skims the page that’s being displayed to your visitors to see if its possible to monetise the content. By simply adding a single line of code to the footer.php of your WordPress theme you can continue to focus on the content. Whenever you add a link directly to a merchant, for example http://www.wickes.co.uk, Skimlinks will track it as an affiliate link despite it looking like a noraml link out. Genius!

What REALLY Happened In Vegas

pure 150x150 What REALLY Happened In VegasIts 6pm in Vegas and I’m sat in the McCarran business lounge – not as plush as it sounds as anyone who has been to McCarran will confirm. This is the first time I’ve had chance to stop and think, making notes on what I’ve experienced in the past 7 days, and how this years Affiliate Summit has been for me.

It was pretty much a last minute decision to attend and by the 20th December I realised I hadn’t got myself a pass. Luckily I was offered a Press Pass that got me in to all areas accept lunch – not a bad thing!

Check Your AWin Deeplinks

Link Breaker 150x150 Check Your AWin DeeplinksIn an attempt to keep up to date with the ever increasing Online Sales, I’ve been creating deeplinks as fast as the emails have been hitting my inbox. The firefox tools from Affiliate Window, Buy.At, POR and Linkshare have been a great help, or so I thought, helping reduce the time to create deeplinks.

As normal, I clicked on the AWin firefox tool hoping to create a deeplink for Shoes.co.uk, however it gave me the following deeplink;
http://www.awin1.com/cread.php?platform=dl&awinmid=1723&awinaffid=6012

Now as a busy affiliate, I don’t check every deeplink I create, but on this occasion thought I would. As it happens, the deeplink AWin generated for me sent me off to a completely different merchant – TotallyShoes.co.uk.

Free SEO Reports

I received a newsletter the other day that grabbed my attention, initially as the subject mentioned the Affiliate Summit. In the newsletter Shoemoney was plugging another of his sites, Free SEO Report which sets out to do what it says on the tin.

There’s 100′s of companies all offering quick and simple ways to get to #1 in Google, most of them charging for their “advice”. We all know they’re either scams or simply unrealistic at best – you probably find they don’t even appear for their own search terms such as SEO Advice!

Free SEO Report compares your website to your competitors and is Google country specific telling you not only what your competitors are doing, but more importantly, what you’re NOT doing.

The information contained within your report is available to anyone and everyone if you know where to look, so don’t expect any secret ways of getting to #1. What the report does do is collates all the suggestions and improvements in one easy report, meaning you don’t have to waste time doing the leg work yourself.

You get your first report, focusing on one domain, free of charge after which you need to upgrade if you want to run comparisons on other sites you own.

If you’re starting out, have a new website or want to know why you’re not seeing the results you’d hoped for, then Free SEO Report is definately worth a shot. The PDF download simplifies what you’ve probably been meaning to do, but have either not got round to it or put it off, for the fear the process taking up hours of your time.
