Google Landing Pages

Over the past few days I have been having a bit of a nightmare with a particular Google PPC Campaing. It’s been running in the background without any trouble for nearly 4 months, then Google decided to suspend it whilst I was away in Vegas attending the affiliate summit. The reason for suspension of my campaign was due to my landing page ‘not offering a substantial amount of original content related to your ad text, standing independent of the affiliate links’.

After speaking to Kieron, I grabbed one of his PPC templates and chopped and changed it in MS FrontPage and resubmitted the campaign. Hours later it was declined again for exactly the same reason. After reading Googles response a second time, I realised they were looking at another website, one thats not mine, not identified in my PPC campaign and thought this was the reason of my ad being rejected again.

Unfortunately it wasn’t the case. Google, as ever, are unable to explain as to why my campaign has been rejected, yet others in the same format are accepted (don’t worry, I didn’t grass you up K!).

I also pointed out, and asked for an explanation, NOT one off a script or out of the book, as to why they enforce this rule on some, yet when it comes to big organisations such as eBay, they appear to get away with murder. The example below shows results if you searched for Kiddcare. As you will see, eBay are bidding on this keyword, however when you click on the link and get taken to the eBay website, there is nothing related to the keyword nor is there any useful content or alternatives .

Google Advert eBay Landing Page

As usual, Google responded with the ‘we can not comment on individual cases’ rubbish.

Anyway, time for a plug! If you require quick and free content for landing pages, I can suggest paying a visit to Article Alley. Its not a good idea if you are designing a complete website, but for landing pages and PPC campaigns I think it the perfect partner.

Also on Friday, I received a phonecall from MSN regarding another one of my adverts. It had a gramatical error as I’d used the word AND twice by mistake. They asked if I would like them to correct the error so that my campaign would go live without any further holdup. The difference between Google the untouchable, and MSN the ones who offer a personal, sensible service is incredible. I just hope when MSN are profiting as much as Google are with sponsored advertising, they will continue with the personal service.
