Google And The Lack Of Processes

Google Fiasco #2…

Having come from an ITIL background, I have a thorough understanding of processes, the importance of them, and the idea in introducting them to a large multinational corporate. Infact last year I pretty much ate, breathed and drank processes 24 hours a day. I, like many, thought the introduction of processes and standards often raised more questions and concerns than what they addressed and are perceived as adding another barrier or additional red tape to our normal working lives.

After implenting them, training staff and seeing them become a major factor in the IT world, I am now tempted to speak to Google and suggest they may want to look at processes and procedures themselves!

As many of your will know from previous posts, Google have been a right royal pain in the butt when it comes to my recent PPC campaigns. First you can’t do this, then you can, next you have to add this, then remove it, infact I am not convinced that Google themselves know what the latest rules and regulations are! I received a reply to my recent email, after Google said that I had NOT been told my ad’s were approved. After I sent them a copy of they email I had received from themselves only 2 weeks prior, my ads/campaign is still not live;

“However, I have checked with our policy specialists and can confirm that your ads were correctly disapproved. Your bridge page is still linking directly to a parent company’s website, and does not provide a substantial amount of unique content that is independent of the affiliate links on your page.”

This response is somewhat different to the email I received 2 weeks ago where I was told that my advert/campaign had been “reviewed by an AdWords Specialist and that my ads “have now been reviewed and approved your ad to run on Google”.

So from what I can make out, an AdWords Specialist is different to a Policy Specialist, and between them, they have differing opinions of what is acceptable and not acceptable when it comes to ad/campaign approval. I continue to ask for help and guidance, but am constantly pointed to the guidlines on their website. My only concern about this, is that if even Google Staff interpret these guidelines differently, then what hope do we have interpreting them in the way they are intended?
