What’s The Future Of Discount Codes?

3

Many merchants have been backing away from discount codes recently with the likes of Tesco requesting all codes being removed, and Mothercare requesting their site isn’t even associated with discount code websites. Well, finally a company has made a stand, one that will help them move ahead of all the rest.

Paid On Results are implementing a scheme whereby an affiliate is assigned a unique discount code. Whenever this discount code is used, the affiliate to whom it was assigned to, receives the recognition and commission associated with any sales. To go one step further, this then opens up additional advertising opportunities for affiliates such as offline advertising!

This feature is slowly being introduced, and of course will be up to merchants as to whether they take part or not, but lets hope we all (network/merchant/affiliate) can prove to the industry just how valuable this opportunity is, in the hope others will follow and learn from their previous errors of judgement.

So how does this help Discount Code website? Well, a few days ago I found that a lot of my Exclusive Discount Codes had managed to find their way on to another affiliates website. To obtain a Unique Discount Code takes time and in a lot of cases, promises for higher positioning of offers or adverts. Sadly when people rip these codes off your website to use on their own, or in forums, then although sales are made, the original owner receives 0 recognition.

Times are changing and its all thanks to Paid On Results! Read their blog post here.

  1. Sounds like a perfect solution and it’s great that Paid On Results are innovating in response to demand. Now all we need is a way to stop unscrupulous voucher sites from iframing the merchants site as a sneaky way to drop their affiliate cookie and we can all be happy.

It’s a great system and it’s good to see POR taking a lead in this area which has become a hot potato recently.
I was informed just this morning that another codes site is running our exclusive code and if the system was up and running I’d be pleased to take the commission from their site.
Not only have we spent time organising exclusive codes, in some cases we’ve accepted a lower commission and for rival sites to rip these codes and take full commission is doubly insulting.

I prefer the Discount Code is embedded in the affiliate links.
