Sadly, a number of people were unable to make it to the Bristol A4U event due to the crazy weather we experience on Friday. Flooding was a major issue for those travelling by coach, car or train as many roads were either closed, gridlocked or trains were turned back. This photo (notice the hard shoulder, slow and middle lane are all underwater) was one of the reasons why my expected 3hr journey (180 miles) turned into a 7hrs 30mins nightmare.
At one point, spending 2 hours traveling 2 miles I was tempted to turn back and head home, but the next exit was still 5 miles away so I had no choice but to sit there along with everyone else. I got off quite lightly listening to some of the stories of others… notably Dave, Elaine and Our Kev who arrived at 1am only to go straight to bed.
So was it worth it? Well, all in all, yes it was. It was good and fun to catch up with all the regulars and put a few new names and faces together and was interesting to visit a place I’ve never frequented before. The event itself was a ‘BBQ’ but I think they chucked everything under the grill in the end, understandably, and despite lots of folk being unable to attend, the number of people present was very pleasantly surprising. It really goes to show the strength and commitment of those involved in the industry.
After the event, most people piled to a club called Oceana which was really good, and completely different. Its a big place, kitted out to represent 5 or 6 different styles of music and surroundings. At one point it was looking like it was going to be an early night, as I lost everyone for 20 minutes. What made it worse was when I was befriended by some strange Irish man dressed as a pirate with a Parrot on his shoulder! As I headed out of the club for an early retirement I was unfortunate enough to bump into Graham from BuyAGift and the Black Sambuca’s raised their ugly heads again.
Next port of call was the Casino where many of us actually made nice somes of money. Not sure what actually happened, whether we decided to leave or it closed, but either way a small number of us were still not ready to call it a night, and continued to the hotel to polish off some Rum and Cokes. Worth noting was that for once, I actually made breakfast at my hotel at 06:30…. albeit on the way to bed
A quick catchup over brunch with the peeps at DGM finished the weekend off, followed by a 5hr return trip and a slight niggling headache.
A massive thanks has to go to all peeps at Existem for organising a very memorable night.

I am glad I called it a night before Oceana, I thought all saturday I wish I went on but my head was kinda ok saturday.
The taxi queue was a nightmare, with people just walking in front of cars, and opens the doors taxi or not!! people pushing in and then starting fights if anyone protested.
A taxi driver chucked people out for saying you are having a giraffe at the prices he was quoting. It was like the wild wild west. I seem to remember loads of people turning up dressed like harry potter also.
After 30 mins of waiting I nearly went to oceana but I met some people going same place as me so the taxi fare was reasonable.
All in all a good night
